Meet Emily Wunsch
MHP, Intern Therapist | Services in English and Spanish
(she/her)
Hi, I’m Emily Wunsch, an intern at ARCH Counseling Center with a background in community mental health and group facilitation. At the core of my therapeutic approach is the belief that in order to change, we have to accept ourselves as we are. From this stance, we can move forward with greater curiosity and self-compassion, not focusing on what is “wrong” with us but instead drawing upon our inherent strengths and resilience as the basis for change.
More about EMILY
Education, Background & More
My style is warm, collaborative, and flexible, with a grounding in psychodynamic and mindfulness approaches. Whether you’re navigating challenges in your relationships, struggling with self-esteem, or feeling stuck in negative thought loops, I aim to create a space for you to talk about what doesn’t get said out loud.
I work from an anti-oppressive framework, meaning I view clients within their contexts and acknowledge the effects of systemic oppression on clients with marginalized identities. Instead of providing the answers, I work to empower clients to become agents of change in their own lives. My aim is to build a strong therapeutic relationship that is affirming of who you are.
When working with couples, I help partners understand the patterns that keep them feeling stuck and disconnected. Often, what looks like anger, criticism, withdrawal, or defensiveness is connected to deeper vulnerabilities and survival strategies we developed long before the relationship. Together, we slow down these cycles, bring curiosity to what’s happening beneath the surface, and practice new ways of listening and responding. My aim is to help couples develop a relationship that can be an oasis from the pressures of the outside world and a place where both partners feel supported in becoming more fully themselves.
Finally, I encourage clients to take on an attitude of play and experimentation in therapy, trying out new ways of being in and viewing the world that bring greater freedom and connection. If this resonates, let’s connect.

On Creating Distance Between You and Your Thoughts
Some researchers estimate we have up to 70,000 thoughts a day, and they say around 90% of these thoughts are repetitive and negative. Thinking is the trademark of our species. Although other animals “think” in the sense that their brains produce electrical signals,...
