Experience Growth and Professional Development at ARCH Counseling Center

ARCH Counseling Center offers a unique and enriching internship experience for Master’s level students in mental health fields. We provide a supportive and collaborative environment where interns can gain valuable clinical experience, develop professional skills, and contribute to the well-being of our diverse client population.

We have proudly welcomed interns from programs including Adler University, The Chicago School, DePaul University, National Louis University, and Northeastern Illinois University

Our Internship Program Offers:

  • Hands-on Clinical Experience: Gain valuable experience providing direct clinical services to individuals, couples, and families.
  • Exposure to Diverse Populations: Work with a diverse range of clients, including adults, adolescents, children, and couples, addressing a variety of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and life transitions.
    • Caseload Customization: ARCH Counseling Center will work with interns to provide a caseload that aligns with their specific interests and learning goals, such as working with specific client populations or focusing on particular mental health conditions.
  • Comprehensive Supervision: Receive comprehensive supervision from the Practice Owner, Bernard de Wet, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with extensive clinical and supervision experience.
    • Individual Supervision: One hour of individual supervision per week, providing personalized guidance and support for your clinical work.
    • Group Supervision: One hour of weekly group supervision, fostering peer learning and collaborative case consultation.
  • Exposure to a Trauma-Informed Approach: Learn and apply trauma-informed principles in your clinical work, creating a safe and supportive environment for clients.
  • Integration of Person-Centered Therapy: Gain experience in utilizing a person-centered approach that emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity in the therapeutic relationship.
    • Exploration of Diverse Therapies: While grounded in a Person-Centered and Trauma-Informed Care foundation, we encourage a flexible and integrative approach to therapy. Interns will have the opportunity to explore and utilize a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Existential Therapy, and others, to best meet the unique needs of each client.
  • Professional Development Opportunities:
    • On-site Training: Participate in on-site training through Relias, enhancing your clinical skills and knowledge.
    • Community Engagement: Attend community events and participate in outreach activities to broaden your understanding of the mental health landscape.
    • Case Conceptualization and Treatment Planning: Develop strong clinical skills by completing comprehensive assessments and developing individualized treatment plans.
  • Opportunities for Growth: Contribute to the growth and development of a thriving mental health practice while developing your own professional identity.
    • Potential for Full-Time Employment: ARCH Counseling Center has a history of hiring exceptional interns upon successful completion of their program.

Ideal Candidates:

  • Enrolled in a graduate program in a mental health field (e.g., Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy).
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate empathy, compassion, and a commitment to ethical practice.
  • Have a strong interest in learning and applying trauma-informed principles.
  • Are eager to learn and grow within a collaborative and supportive team environment.
