As the days get longer and we’re all enjoying the spring sunshine, it might seem counterintuitive to talk about staying inside. But what if I told you that you could enjoy the outdoors and prioritize your mental well-being? Let’s explore the world of telehealth therapy and how it can fit seamlessly into your life, no matter how busy you are.
While in-person therapy has its place, I want to really highlight the unique advantages of virtual sessions. It’s not about dismissing traditional methods; it’s about recognizing that telehealth offers a unique and accessible way to connect with a therapist and prioritize your mental health.
- Convenience: You don’t have to worry about leaving the house or getting appropriately dressed. Many of us are familiar with the more relaxed dress code of virtual meetings! You can choose to do the session in the comfort of your home with the least amount of effort.
- Accessibility: What if you’re tired but still want your session? Traveling in a car, bus, or other mode of transport can feel like a hassle. At home, all you need is decent Wi-Fi and a device of any kind! And we can connect and catch up without the hassle of travel.
- Costs: Travel expenses—gas, bus passes, train passes, parking fees—add up. Especially if money is running tight, telehealth is a fantastic option.
- Efficiency: The time and energy required to prepare to leave the house can be significant. For some, the anticipation can be particularly challenging, impacting our ability to engage in other activities. With virtual sessions, you remain at home.
- Comfort: Sessions can be conducted from a comfortable location. Clients have connected from their car (while parked, of course). If you have children or pets, you don’t have to worry about childcare. Your child or pet can even join the session.
- Engagement: If you find an excellent therapist across town, telehealth eliminates travel time and expense. This allows you to focus on the therapeutic relationship. As the pandemic showed, therapy is effective and meaningful virtually. Telehealth also allows you to find the right therapist, not just the closest one.
Overall, telehealth is comfortable, easy, and accessible. Regardless of your reason for choosing virtual therapy, it is convenient and does not impact therapeutic progress. My responsibility is to make you feel seen, whether on screen or in person.
