(he/him)
Hi, I’m Gabriel Brown, a Clinical Mental Health Intern Therapist at ARCH Counseling Center. Currently, I am working toward a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at DePaul University. From my point of view, there is more than one professional in the therapeutic relationship, and therapy ought to be built around your reality, rather than any prescribed method.

Education, Background & More
When I approach counseling, I truly believe that you are the greatest source of knowledge when it comes to your life. Nobody else can fully speak to the minute-by-minute feelings, thoughts, actions, events, etc. that you experience every day. In other words, while I may be trained to help you, you are trained in the ways of your life. To be a therapist is similar to being a co-driver, to me; I can help with direction and mechanics, yet you are ultimately the one to decide where we go next.
Additionally, I hold that to approach counseling from one established point of view on the part of the therapist is unwise. As I mentioned above, every person is a unique being, with idiosyncratic strengths, qualities, obstacles, and needs. To approach an individual’s uniqueness with a single (or slightly more than one) approach would naturally fail to capture the full picture of this person. Therefore, I like to have a solid understanding of multiple therapeutic approaches and collaboratively decide with you how you want therapy to look.
